Vermont Open Farm Week Celebrates 6 years - August 10-16

Farms welcome the public to dig into Vermont’s agricultural economy

MONTPELIER, VT – For the sixth consecutive year, farmers across Vermont will once again open their barn doors and garden gates to welcome the public for a behind-the-scenes look at Vermont’s vibrant working landscapes. Vermont Open Farm Week 2020 will be held Monday Aug. 10 through Sunday, Aug. 16.

This year's offerings will focus on events appropriate for the current social distancing-related guidelines: tours, picnics, farm trails, virtual/online event, social media storytelling, and other very creative ways to experience and learn about our farms and farmers. Events are live and sorted by day and location on DigInVT.com

Open Farm Week is a celebration of Vermont farms offering visitors a backstage pass to learn more about local food origins, authentic agritourism experiences, and the chance to build relationships with local farmers. Activities vary and include chances to feed pigs, harvest vegetables, enjoy farm walking trails with an on farm picnic, see behind- the-scenes at a sheep farm, try goat yoga and more! Each Open Farm Week experience is created by afarmer and focused on highlighting the unique character of the host farm. Below are a few highlights of the 2020 schedule:

Farm Walking Trails: This new Open Farm Week initiative invites Vermonters to seek out countryside walks as a healthy and safe place to be outside, engage with the working landscape and get to know their agricultural neighbors. A list of participating farms can be found at www.Diginvt.com/farmwalks

On Farm Picnics: Farms are the perfect place for a picnic. Celebrate our farms, support our local chefs, and enjoy the outdoors during Open Farm Week! Order takeout from your favorite local market or restaurant and visit our list of farms for lunch with a view.

Explore Farm life: From guided vineyard tours to herding demonstrations to virtual tastings and fiber workshops, Vermont Open Farm Week is a chance to learn something new and build a greater connection to our neighbors.

Open Farm Week events are live now! Many events are free and some require pre-registration. Not all farms are open every day, so be sure to visit DigInVT.com to explore the diverse event schedule. Everyone is invited to join the Open Farm Week conversation on social media using the hashtag #VTOpenFarm.
