Tasting Center Director Position

The Northeast Kingdom Tasting Center Tasting Center Director Position Background The Northeast Kingdom Tasting Center is a locavores’ delight, celebrating the creativity and variety of Vermont's leading region for locally made foods. We have tapped into this energy, partnering with cheese makers, wine makers, maple producers and bakers to create a dynamic experience for customers. Our mission is to provide a destination experience where visitors and local residents can learn about, taste and purchase the wonderful foods and drinks made in the Northeast Kingdom and other regions of Vermont. Formed in what was an abandoned department store, the building was renovated in 2013 using Historic Preservation credits and now houses six local food businesses, including a maple shop, a bakery, a gelato producer, a coffee shop, a locavore restaurant, and a cider, wine and spirits tasting bar. The basement of the building is home to Eden Specialty Ciders, which produces its nationally acclaimed ciders on site. We are looking to bring on board a Tasting Center Director who will be responsible for the overall success of the Tasting Center programs by expanding and building on the concept. 

Responsibilities:

Deliver an excellent experience for all visitors

  • Ensure the highest level of service to our customers in a manner that exceeds their expectations in a friendly and professional manner.
  • Interact with business owners to understand and provide feedback from customers, elevate issues, and address matters related to the day to day operation of the TC.
  • Evaluate changes in customer needs in order to recommend appropriate product/service and operational changes necessary to ensure customer satisfaction.  
  • Manage all events at the TC in a manner that is friendly and courteous so that event participants become customers who keep coming back.
  • Keep the TC looking presentable for site tours, ensure proper stock at various locations, monitor tasting opportunities, …
  • Remains current with TC information and changes.

Develop and execute educational experiences that reinforce the local food mission of the Tasting Center 

  • Create displays that inform visitors about farmers and producers that make the products available for sale
  • Schedule and oversee regular sampling events with tenants and suppliers
  • Schedule and support the delivery of educational classes about local foods and beverages – e.g. cheesemaking, cider making, coffee tasting, pairings, locavore cocktail making

Promote the Tasting Center to the target audience

  • Develop and execute a regular schedule of social media content about Tasting Center experiences and opportunities
  • Promote the content on our own social media and to local food and tourism channels
  • Seek out partnership opportunities/events to spread the word about the Tasting Center – e.g. Pop ups at the Kingdom Tap Room and Parker Pie, Tent presence at Kingdom Swim

Desired skills and experience 

  • 3-5 years’ experience in hospitality, restaurant management, or food service management or marketing.
  • Strong people management skills and ability to work across multiple teams.
  • Promotes and applies teamwork skill at all times.
  • Maturity and responsibility to notify appropriate individual promptly and fully of all problems and/or unusual matters of significance.
  • Polite, friendly, and helpful to all customers, management and fellow employees.
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate via phone, email, and face-to-face.
  • Attention to detail, strong management skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to deal with potential conflict or irate customers.
  • Strong problems-solving skills is a must in order to come up with solutions quickly.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays
  • Stamina is a must. The ideal employee will be able to be on their feet for long hours, on a full time basis.

Compensation: Salary plus incentive – commensurate with experience and performance goals for Tasting Center.

Required language: English, French a plus

Job Type: Full-time. We will also consider a summer season applicant.

The Inn at Weathersfield is looking for a sous chef to work side-by-side with Executive Chef Michael Ehlenfeldt.

We butcher, make house charcuterie, stocks, sauces, soups, butter, pastas, basic pastries, ice creams and sorbets every day. Big egos need not apply. We work as a team and a family. You'll get to know the local farmers and growers by name. You'll help plant and harvest our organic garden that supplements what we buy from the farms. In high season, about 90% of what we serve comes from within a 20 mile radius. The other 10% comes from New England. You'll have the opportunity to take cooking classes from visiting chefs and cookbook authors. And for the right individual, there will be the opportunity to teach basic cooking classes and help with menu development.
