On the Menu - Flavors of Home (and abroad)

Kathleen Walls runs Flavors of Home – a catering, meal service and prepared food production business out of her own home kitchen in Middlebury, VT. Kathy got her start the old fashioned way – cooking for her extremely appreciative family, but she isn’t your conventional home cook. “We would devote each week to a different country,” she shared of her home-style cooking, ”for the whole week we would be immersed in Japanese Cuisine, or Indian, or Ethiopian, etc. One day my 11-year-old son said, “You should have your own restaurant.” That definitely sparked my interest in taking my food public.” A strong global influence is present in the Flavors of Home weekly menu and in the rotating soups Kathy sells at Middlebury Natural Foods Coop. While the spices may be exotic, her ingredients are Vermont-sourced whenever possible – many from Kathy’s home garden and flock of chickens.

Kathy offers the occasional culinary expedition – food tours of New York’s Lower East Side have been especially popular. Now, she’s taking a lucky group of food lovers to the country where she draws much of her inspiration. Food, wine, cooking classes and exploration are on the menu for a fall tour of Florence and Tuscany. There are still spots available – contact Kathy with interest.
